With a view to imparting technical skill and equipping youth for the competitive job markets, the Haryana government plans to set up 13 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 96 skill development centres under its skill development programme.
“The state government has submitted a detailed proposal on setting up of more ITIs and resource centres to the Government of India. The new institutes and centres will be set up in public private partnership mode.” Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati said.
“We are working on improving the quality of education and introducing new short-term courses in ITIs and polytechnics all across the state so that more job avenues open up for the youth. We are going to set targets of churning out skilled manpower every year,” the Chief Secretary added.
Gulati further informed that based on the Centre’s labour and employment modular employable skill scheme, the state Industrial Training Department was implementing the skill development initiative scheme.
“Under the scheme, we are making the school dropouts employable by imparting skills and giving certificates to them,” Gulati said.
The Haryana government’s decision to set up more ITIs and skill development centres all across the state is in sync with the goal of the national council on skill development.
The Government of India has set a target of training 500 million people by 2022.
Under the programme, the states are being encouraged to upgrade the infrastructure of ITIs. The Directorate General of Employment has also initiated action for setting up of 1,500 ITIs and 5,000 skill development centres in the country.
